UK Planning

The UK faces enormous challenges to provide sufficient and suitable housing and services for our growing population. Increasingly wealthy and powerful development companies can take advantage of this need by proposing inappropriate retail, housing or road developments on greenfield land or without complying fully with Government guidance.

PIL acts for community groups or individuals harmed by planning schemes. We aim for a preventative approach by for example, making representations to a decision-maker prior to a decision being made, say, to grant planning permission for a particular project.

PIL is currently acting in a challenge against Tamworth Borough Council’s adoption of its Local Plan 2001-2011, and specifically its allocation of the Anker Valley as a Strategic Housing Proposal. The Anker Valley is the last significant remaining greenfield space in the Tamworth area. Tamworth Borough Council has allocated it for a development of 800 houses. The High Court hearing is likely to take place in early 2007.
